I speak today with quieter words,

Ones shaped by truth, not pride-

I'm sorry for the hurt I gave, 

For every tear you had to hide.

I know I wasn't always gentle,

I know I slipped, I know I fell;

But every mistake I ever made

Taught me what my heart can't quell.

I miss the peace of your presence,

The warmth I felt just hearing your name;

And if regret could turn back time,

I'd rewrite every moment I caused you pain.

I'm not here to force forgiveness,

Nor pretend the past was light...

I'm here because losing you 

Taught me how to love you right.

So if your heart still holds a place

For someone who's learning to be true-
